There is an extra bounce in Afro-Pop sensation Becca’s gait these days, because a project she has been dreaming of for a while now to help 10,000 children sign onto the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) is about to materialize.

The singer, who studied Child Care at Croydon College in England after her Senior High education at Wesley Girls High School in Cape Coast, says she was shattered when she heard about the death of a four-month old baby at a hospital in Accra earlier this year because the mother could not afford a small amount of money to buy some prescribed medication.

“The incident really touched my heart. It set me thinking about what I could do in my own little way to help such unfortunate children.

Several options crossed my mind, but I felt the most immediate way to demonstrate concern was to kick off a scheme that would get 10,000 children signed onto the NHIS”, Becca said.

After a period of sensitizing some private individuals and heads of reputable corporate bodies, Becca says she has been able to pull together a team of efficient partners who share her passion to help bring health and hope to Ghana’s children. The Country Director of the World Bank in Ghana, Mr. Ishac Diwan, is a patron of the project.

“There are many in the society who would like to show love to deprived children in diverse ways, but are not really sure about how to go about it.

The project I’m about to launch will welcome all such people on board so we can all unite and do what we can to make more children happy”, she revealed.

Twenty-four-year-old Becca came to prominence with the release of her debut album ‘Sugar’, which contained the 2007 hit song, You Lied To Me.

She garnered over $104,000 for charity at the launch of her album at the Golden Tulip Hotel in Accra in November of that same year.

Some impressive singles, including Daa Ke Daa, have followed the album as the pretty songstress continues to show maturity in outlook and presentation.

She noted that she is extremely delighted by the enormous love shown her by the public and feels the time is ripe again for her to reciprocate that good-will.

A press conference to announce the details of Becca’s project, which will include some fund-raising concerts, has been scheduled for Tuesday, December 1 at the International Press Centre in Accra.
