Folk and high life musician, and leader of the Hewale Sounds, Dela Botri is due to leave Ghana for Espoo in Finland to hold a series of workshops and teaching sessions for music teachers and students there.

He revealed this in an exclusive interview with Myjoyonline.com. He will leave the country on Sunday, November 29 and return on Tuesday, December 22.

Dela is going to Finland to hold different workshops and teaching sessions on Ghanaian traditional and contemporary music. He will organise sessions for students of Sibelius Academy, Grades 9, 8 and 7 students of some selected schools and some music teachers across Finland.

He will hold; a flute workshop, singing workshop (on the different styles and forms of Ghanaian music: Kpanlogo, Borborbor and lullabies from the different ethnic groups in Ghana) and teachings on traditional drums.

He attributed the love for his music by the foreign community to the rhythms and elements in his music - “They listen to my music and they also like the elements in my music. The poly-rhythmic nature of the music I do,” he said.

He revealed that in June next year, 35 Finish, 5 Americans, 4 Turkish, all teachers will come to Ghana to do full time courses on local music and culture. He last year brought seven people from Finland to learn more on Ghanaian culture and music.

Early on in October this year, a crew from the BBC came to the country to feature Dela Botri and his Hewale Sounds on a BBC TV Children’s program which also had to do with the teaching of Ghanaian music and culture.
